Living and working in Latin America and the Caribbean for most of his adult life, Tyler Rosebush is a queer visual artist based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The dynamic and often violent natural phenomena of the tropics and its ever-changing coastal landforms have deeply influenced his artistic perspective. He spent years observing the visual vocabulary of volcanic lagoons in Veracruz, rainforests of Colombia, and the swamps of the Atchafalaya. Currently, his artistic practice applies the irrational physics of dreams to observations of tropical landforms in order to draw forth new forms and figures out of the sublime. The resulting paintings in turn become hyper-vibrant images through which we can project a sense of free association back onto the natural environment helping us to cope with its terrifying power.
